Article 370 Jammu and Kashmir: Restrictions have been put in place in J&K to ensure peace is maintained across the Valley. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir today to oversee the security measures.

Resolution on Article 370, which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir, has been moved in Lok Sabha today by Home Minister Amit Shah, a day after it got over two-thirds majority in the Rajya Sabha.

The resolution to bifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir to two Union Territories - J&K and Ladakh - has also been moved in the lower house of the parliament, where the government has a clear majority.

The state is under a lockdown and former chief ministers - Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti - were arrested on Monday soon after the two resolutions cleared Rajya Sabha. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba are in Jammu and Kashmir today to oversee the security measures.

Not A Political Move: Amit Shah Hits Back At Congress

Hitting back at Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Home Minister Amit Shah said: “This is not a political move. Parliament has full powers to make laws for the entire country. The constitution of India and the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir both allow for this to be done.”

“I want to make it absolutely clear that every single time we say Jammu and Kashmir, it includes Pak-occupied Kashmir. Let there be no doubt over it. Entire Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the Union of India,” he said.

PoK and Aksai Chin are also part of Jammu and Kashmir: Amit Shah

A day after passage of resolution on abrogation of Article 370 in Rajya Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said that even Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Aksai Chin are also part of Jammu and Kashmir.

“I want to make it very clear once again that J&K is an integral and inseparable part of India. There is absolutely no doubt over it, and there is no legal dispute on this,” Amit Shah said in Lok Sabha. He was replying to Congress leader of the House Adheer Ranjan’s sought a clarification from the government over the issue.

“When I say Jammu and Kashmir, it includes PoK. Both Indian and J&K constitutions also say that the state is an integral part of India and this gives us the right to form laws for the state, which includes PoK and Aksai Chin,” he added.

Fulfilling an electoral promise of the BJP less than 90 days after the Modi 2.0 government took power, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the decision in the Rajya Sabha, which approved both the resolution and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation bill.

The Article 370 announcement, capping days of uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir, led to an uproar, in the House and outside it too.
